Along with being scarily tasty, these Halloween sweets and treats are safe and fun to make with the kids. And if anyone has a very strict vegan diet or allergies, the ingredients can be switched out to match it perfectly!

Vegan Chocolate Spiderweb Cupcakes

These vegan cupcakes are amazingly delicious, and are perfect for a Halloween bash, but can be used as a seasonal treat for any time of year. They taste great and are ideal for birthdays, Christmas, Easter and, of course, Halloween parties!

Ingredients:

  • 180g all-purpose flour
  • 200g sugar
  • 30g Cocoba vegan chocolate flakes, melted
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 240ml almond milk, oat milk or your favourite vegan milk.
  • 100g cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegan chocolate frosting (we tell you how to make this in a bonus recipe below)
  • Vegan chocolate for spiderweb design

Instructions:

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 180°C and line a cupcake tin with liners (bonus points if they have a Halloween theme!)
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in the almond milk, melted coconut oil, melted chocolate, apple cider vinegar, and vanilla extract until combined.
  4. Bake: Fill the cupcake liners 2/3 full and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean. Let them cool down completely.
  5. Frost and Decorate: Frost the cupcakes with vegan chocolate frosting. Melt the leftover chocolate and use a piping bag to draw a spiral on the top of each cupcake. Drag a toothpick from the centre to the edges to create a spiderweb design. For a white spider web, you can use coconut butter or vegan white chocolate if you have it.

These cupcakes are not only tasty but look fantastic with their spooky spiderweb design. Plus, they can be customised in so many ways. Why not make tombstone cupcakes or cupcake mummies by tweaking the frosting and decoration? What about making some Halloween popcorn hands to hold the cupcakes ready for the kids and grown-ups to dive into?

Bonus Vegan Halloween Recipe!

We had to include this recipe because it is so handy for anyone who has a sweet tooth. Plus, if you make our vegan Halloween cupcakes, you'll need some beautiful frosting to decorate them with. So, here's a dairy-free, gluten-free delight that you can decorate any vegan Halloween treats with, plus it's handy for every other time of the year too!

How to make vegan chocolate frosting

Ingredients:

  • 450g powdered sugar
  • 4 tbsp Cocoba's vegan hot chocolate flakes
  • 4-5 tbsp almond milk or any other non-dairy milk (slightly warmed)
  • 3 tbsp vegan butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

Add the powdered sugar, vegan chocolate flakes, vegan butter, vanilla and around half the soy milk to a bowl. If you have a stand mixer, this is a great time to pull it out, as it can take a while to mix this by hand.

Start mixing. If you're using a mixer, start on low, gradually moving to a higher setting until thick, smooth and creamy. If you're doing this by hand, take it slow at first (until everything is combined) and then speed up until smooth and thick. Add the extra soy milk in slowly and only as much as needed for the desired consistency.

It should be thick, but still be easily spreadable so it won’t go sliding off a cake. So if it’s not thick enough, add a little more powdered sugar. If you'd like your frosting runnier, you can add more milk.
