How to Make Iced Drinking Chocolate for the Summer

Summer is officially here, which means it's time to get ready to enjoy some summer drinks! So, let us introduce you to one of the most tasty treats you can have in the summer - our iced drinking chocolate! It is easy to make, easy to customise and has a rich and indulgent mouth feel! Here's how to make it!

Iced Drinking Chocolate Recipe

It's really easy and fun to create delicious, iced chocolate drinks from home. The first, and most important step is to choose your favourite Drinking Chocolate Flakes. We have milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate or for the ultimate indulgence, salted caramel chocolate flakes! Try to choose the flakes that pair best with your other ingredients. Speaking of other ingredients, here's what else you'll need:

You'll also need:

  • Whole milk (you can use oat milk)
  • Hot water
  • A shot of coffee (optional)
  • A shot of something stronger (optional, but we love rum or whisky)

The equipment you'll need:

  • Dualit Milk Frother (optional)
  • Two glasses
  • Ice cube tray
  • A tablespoon
  • A measuring jug

Optional toppings

Here's how to make an iced hot chocolate

Step 1 - Making a chocolate sauce

Using your chosen flavour of chocolate flakes, add 4-5 heaped tablespoons of shavings to a glass (or more if you like it extra chocolatey!) and combine with 2 tablespoons of boiling water. Mix the boiling water into the flakes and stir thoroughly to melt all the chocolate shavings and form a thick paste. Ensure the chocolate flakes have melted and the paste does not contain any lumps. This is the start of our hot chocolate mix, you've basically made a delicious chocolate sauce that would be incredibly tasty poured over ice cream. However, this hot cocoa mix is going to become a tasty summer drink!

Step 2 - Add the milk

If using the milk frother, fill it with cold milk (you can use any milk, including nut or plant-based milk alternatives) until the Max line is reached, and secure the lid on top.

When ready, start frothing. Please use the frother on the cold setting, as this will whisk your milk until it’s nice and frothy but it will keep it nice and cool for the next stage.

Once complete, you can then unplug the milk frother from the socket and pour the milk into the glass.*

Alternatively, if you’re making them by hand without the assistance of gadgets, you simply need to top up your glass with any milk of your choice. Pour this on top of the chocolate paste and fill about one inch from the top of the glass (making sure you leave room for whipped cream, of course!).

Step 3 - Stirring

Combine the cold milk with the chocolate paste by stirring thoroughly with a spoon. Ensure this is mixed well to avoid any residue forming in the bottom of the glass.

Top Tip: Once mixed, add a few chocolate ice cubes to give a refreshingly icy finish to your chocolate drink.**

Step 4 - Toppings time

Pop a few ice cubes into your glass, add in your shot of espresso (or something stronger at this stage) and then top with whipped cream, chopped nuts or any other number of wonderful toppings like our salted caramel buttons or use a Cocoba chocolate bar to create stunning shaved chocolate.

You can even add a sprinkle of chocolate flakes on top to impress your guests with an extra fancy finish! Whichever flavours you choose, you can guarantee that you'll bring the entire garden party together with playful and delicious iced chocolate drinks this summer. Serve immediately and enjoy every sip!
